Do I need a contract for small renovation jobs?

I’m looking to contract a building for a small renovation that will cost roughly $3000. Do I need to set up a contract between myself and the builder for this size job?

For ‘small jobs’ worth between $1,001 and $5,000 there must be a
written agreement signed on behalf of both parties which includes:
- names of the parties and the number of the holder of the contractor licence
- description of the work, including plans and specifications
- the contract price, if known
